MACBRAYNES

By Sasanach
Today I saw this old MACBRAYNES bus parked in the lower carpark in Portree. I only had my pocket camera with me but I just had to photograph it whilst I had the opportunmity.

Looks like my old school bus. Stunning capture, great detail and colour. Well done.

Looks very much like the coach used in the film "The Titfield Thunderbolt". Different livery but similar model.

SmileBrings back a few memories.Vaguely remember as an 11year old going from Glasgow to Ballachulish in 1967 by Macbraynes bus.If memory serves the Glasgow-Ft William/Ft William-Glasgow buses met at either Tyndrum or Crainlarich where the drivers, after the 'tea stop', swapped busesSmile. They were,I know,THE bus server for most of the west highlands/islands/kintyre in the sixties,as well as ferry operator and haulage firm. All that changed in the 70's but not sure what caused the changes?.

Dead right unfortunately.

All of these are really good images, V and V5 in particular for me but the background lets them down.
Obviously, there wasn't a lot you could do about that which is a shame because the bus itself really deserves better.

Jester.

Edit: I've just treated V5 to a tighter crop, losing the bit on the right and given it a quick boost in levels, shadows/highlights and a touch more contrast and it's really come to life.
V2 will probably respond equally well but it's going to need a bit of work with the airbrush to remove the newer buses on the right.
When I've got more time perhaps!

Hi guy and gals. I wrote a long reply and then deleted it. I am sorry if the image is spoilt, for some of you, because of the situation in which the photos were taken but I felt it was better to record what I could than to miss the opportunity altogether.

Oh and in version 5 the van in the background is my van. Sorry, I should have cropped it out too.
