So evocative of the Hebrides with those wonderful thatched roofs on the croft houses - and, of more interest to me, that wonderful big sandy bay of which there are so many. I'll be in Harris and Lewis for four or five days only in July! Can't wait!!

Now, that's interesting! Having read the above comments, I too expected to prefer V 2, Dougie, but in fact my favourite is the less contrasty and less saturated V 1........I can't help feeling it looks more natural, esp. as a photo, whereas if I were to do a painting of it I would probably go for the punchier V 2.
Looks like the weather was excellent that day, blue skies and silver sands which I was hoping to see.

The croft seems weighed down under all that sky.
I prefer V2 for the thatch. But the sky in V1 seems a bit more credible! Maybe I'm just not used to all that blue.

Agree with Derek. I'd love to go there one day. It's a great 'fine weather' image, Dougie. low light drama wasn't an option here but what a glorious scene.

The more natural look to V1 appeals most, Dougie. The 'punchier' v2 looks more like a biscuit tin lid for the tourists.
The weighed-down thatch certainly brings back distant childhood memories.

My original thought was a bit overexposed and washed out, and version 2 is better in that regard, but I feel it darkens the top of the sky too much.
My solution...blend the two, mainly v2 but keep the top of the sky from v1 (which is maybe what Moira was hinting at?...

I wouldn't want to swap my life for a crofters, but I'd love to stay in such a beautiful place. At least for a longer holiday.
