Man in charge

By Strobekid
My MD asked me to do a portrait sitting with him. I did a few basic mug shots on white background, then moved onto fun stuff. This one, I tried to bring out the authority in the man.

Put a black bg, snooted flash on his face from camera left, lit his hand holding a pen with another snooted flashgun. Kept most of his suits underexposed and treid to expose it just by a little spilling ambient light. In the hindsight, I think I could have lit the whole thing a little more maybe, but I don't mind it as it is. He is very chuffed with all the shots.

Any comments would be appreciated.

imho this is an extremely good portrait. I notice you continue to search for further improvement! (the curse of the perfectionist maybe?) LOL

Only for what it is worth, imho I would prefer the hand to be slightly less bright, because it seems to draw my eyes down there too srongly, and competes too much with the face for my attention. I offer this comment solely with the wish to give feedback that might be useful! I still think the portrait is excellent.

I am also sincerely grateful that you have told us about your method. That is really useful, to me at least Smile

... and, if the picture is anything to go by, I wouldn't want him to be my boss! (but I suspect he is not always as stern as he looks here)

Thank you for the comments.

Ian - really appreciate your comment. I may adjust the brightness of the hand slightly, and repost another version soon.

Oh, by the way, he is a big softie normally. One of the reasons why he wanted to be portrayed differently Smile

I think everything is spot-on. I dont even mind the brightness on the hand. It gives emphasis to his stature. If i have to change anything, i'd give him a fountain pen instead of a cheap plastic one.

This should get more attention. 11 votes is just not right.

This is a superb shot, the lighting certainly makes him look very much the authoritarian and I agree with grimm about the pen Smile
