A wonderful image Colleen. Not the same as photographing them in the wild though.

I feel sorry for elephants in zoos - I just feel they need wide open spaces.

Our zoo has a huge area for elephants.
In fact itís an award winning area called Trail of the elephants which gives them heaps of space to roam and forage between paddocks as they please. They even have a 150m2 pool they can wallow in. They have 2 hectares of space for 6 elephants.
Our zoo is World class and has ample space for all their animals.
We are also building an $84 million open range area for the elephants at Werribee open range zoo in Melbourne . It will consist of 22 hectares of land just for them.

Like the Crop Colleen works well.
These animals are so well looked after all over the world and are given plenty of room to live. Better that than getting shot for their Ivory.

Lovely detailed capture.

I like that most zoos today do an excellent job in caring for and housing their animals. There is also the huge conservation issue around animals that may otherwise be eradicated in the wild. Until the whole world wakes up to the fact that we have to work together to provide safety for animals in the wild then zoos still have a purpose. Yours sounds to be a fantastic place Colleen but I do hope that one day animals can be safe from poaching, deforestation, climate change and human beings in their own environment.

I understand what Kate means, to see these beautiful beasts rocking from side to side in some zoos and worse still in circuses is tragic.

Kath I was born in South Africa so wildlife has always been part of my life. My late husband Rob and myself were part owners of a Big 5 game lodge near the Kruger park and we were there every three months for at least 10 years. We sold our part of the lodge when we moved to Australia. Up until then I had never seen an animal in captivity until I met up with some ephotozine friends in London. Now that Iím Australian Iím passionate about saving Koalas.

You have a very great zoo Colleen ..
investing so much into a generous space for their elephants.
They say elephants never forget ....
maybe we should study that ability of theirs to help find a cure for Alzheimerís!
Love your capture
Cheers Walt
