Marauder

By KingArthur
Another shot I captured last Saturday afternoon while out birding at Salina. I had spotted this juvenile Mallard in flight over the opposite end of the creek which, however, didn't arouse much interest in me since it was too distant initially. A while later, while fiddling with one of my cameras, from the corner of my eye I noticed the same duck approaching, this time much lower and heading in my direction .....

Needless to say, it was then all action stations for me as I peered through the viewfinder, framed, getting a good lock on it, and followed through as it flew by in good range for the D500 to chew up admirably ..... a couple of short bursts is all that was needed then, and bingo! In actual fact, I managed to capture the frame I was after with the flight feathers nicely spaced and arched in a low downbeat. This particular type of in flight shot normally brings out the best of our feathered friends, so yes all in all quite a decent capture at the end of the day. Viewing large I noticed that I also managed to capture some nice droplets frozen below the duck's legs which, in such shots, to me is literally the cherry on the cake of a job well done Smile

Enjoy a good rest of the week,
Joe Smile

I always pray to the camera gods, "One good shot, just give me one good shot." The joy of shooting wild life is they don't sit and pose for you like the zoo variety and sometimes you really need the blessings of the camera gods for the second or two to do what you have to do. That's the thrill of shooting wildlife. They smiled on you here for sure. A real beauty.
