Markmaking

By helenlinda
Children come to writing at different ages. Research shows that boys on the whole come to it later than girls.
One of the ways we can encourage the boys to see writing as fun is to give a wide range of materials and opportunities for mark making at an early age.
In the Nursery that means writing opportunities in all areas of role play and a wide range of tools to work with.
Paint brushes and water is one such medium. Here the children write their numbers and letters on the playground and the walls.
On a hot day you have to be quick with the camera or its gone!!
As ever I am limited in what I can show of the children, but I hope this gives you some idea of them working
Thanks for looking
Helen

Fascinating images, Helen. As one who is unaware of ever being unable to read and write I constantly find the learning processes involved an amazing subject for study.
These images are superbly presented and arranged and not at all compromising.

I like the way the middle bottom helps to break up the other shots, as they are very much the same.

A small personal story for your amusement, we are still chuckling about this one---It seems that our 5 year old grandson, Matthew, has learned to write some words-- Learned at his "Nursery"-- He announced this by writing on his Dad's car ( with a magic marker---gasp)

The word was HOT---

"tis great fun to watch them learn!

Beautifully done. I like the way you work creatively within the constraints, these are very personal but totally non-invasive shots.

I remember my son having endless fun with a paint brush and water. Simple pleasures: shame they grow up demanding X boxes instead!

Wot a lode off rubesh! eye've bin gud at riting four yeers Wink
On a serious note. Isn't it ridiculous that we can't document and show these kids have some great times without fear of reprisals!
Very good montage.
