Me and my shadow

By teocali
A Great Mormon(Papilio memno) taken at the Wisley RHS Butterfly Event the other day. Have used the Selective Colour tool in CS5 to accentuate the rather subtle iridescence on this basically black butterfly's wings. Advice and critique welcomed please.

My thanks to everybody who commented on and voted for my Orchard Oriole upload. Much appreciated Smile

A gorgeous butterfly against a beautifully clear background.

It didn't really need modifying, but I decided to have a little play with it! I haven't done much. I rotated it (that's down to personal preference), gave it a slight tweak in lighting/contrast, a tiny bit of sharpening and I made the high light in the eye slightly smaller. Thank you for allowing me to have fun with it (I hope you approve of the results)! Smile

Like it the way it is Sylvia and the flash has given a great shadow and highlight. Shame you couldn't get squirer on but just too many people and awkward angles.
Like this as its different

Lovely capture Sylvia. I really like the unusual angle on this one.

It does need a 90 degree rotation clockwise, which I guess is how you took it. Technically excellent but my absolute first reaction was to rotate - to me, it just does not look right like this. I applaud the atempt to be different though.

Thank you everyone and I really like your mod Karen. I did actually take the image with the camera rotated to portrait from exactly the angle at which it had settled. Thought it looked a bit "arty" but it very helpful to hear how others view it Smile

That shadow play adds a lovely depth to your beautiful image Sylvia - thats the beauty of shooting there, the many and varied backgrounds - I don't see any louvres though Wink...yet?!!!
