Me In '73

By lifesnapper
Hi all, and welcome to my little trip back in time.
Yes, this is me at the start of '73. It's taken from a publicity shot of the four members of our band.
On New Years Eve '72, we had given up everything, and left our day jobs behind, in a bid for fame and fortune. This is a very brief overview of the year that followed, I hope you have time to read and hopefuly, enjoy.
It was Jan' '73, we had new management and agentcy in London. On our first visit to the office, we found that Phill Collins Gen' had the office bellow, and the old stager, Dorothy Squires, was moving into the office across the hall. She brought bottles of bubbly in for us, which we drank with her out of tea mugs. We where to start our year playing support band to Garry Glitter, on a tour of Scotland, and the dream had begun!
Shortly after, we played support to 'Sweet' when they had 'Blockbuster' at No.1. We released a record called 'Someone Like You Babe', which officialy sold one copy Smile By this time, I had forgiven our Lead vocalist/guitarist Dave, for stealing one of my girl friends ( I only had 3 at the time) and later marrying her. But our Bass player, Tim, kind of squared things up by making love to her the night before the Wedding. How Rock & Roll is THAT !!!
More to come with pictures 2 3 & 4

Very, very early '70s. Someone did a good job for you here, this has worn better than a lot of the publicity material of the time! But it seems like another world now, doesn't it. Great story, looking forward to more.

Before I opened this image, the thumbnail shouted '70's rock band'. It reminds me of the kind of image that Pink Floyd used around that time, i.e. the inside cover of Meddle.
Great story

Enjoyed the warts and all approach to the write ups that accompanied the pictures, sure all of us who were in your age group at the time can relate to the pictures and stories. Bet if asked John, next time around would you do the same again - the answer would be yes!! Must have had a terrific time and what an experience. Smashing and refreshingly different.

That was the life, eh? This is a cracking series already, John, and it has only just begun.......
I go for the serious look of #1 and the humour of the write-up.

OMG, this series took me back to my era of music. I was nuts about Pete Phipps, one of Gary Glitter's drummers, and I loved the whole Glam Rock thing. And as for you, you handsome devil... Wink

An excellent description of your escapades John and some great pictures which bring your stories to life. You certainly are a handsome rogue, I can see now why you find it so easy to get the ladies to pose for you, it's the combination of your charm, wit and animal magnetism!

I'm in your age group and can pretty much relate to all of it - LOL. I did take time and read it all and am looking forward to future installments.
Is this a catchy thing - I've spent the past couple of days going through photos I took in the 70's!
