Me In '73 Part 2

By lifesnapper
Hi everyone, and thanks alot for your interest in this series so far.
Well, here goes with the second half. Hold on to your satin shirt, flares and stacks.
One of our regular haunts, was Fagins night club in Wrexham. One night after closing, the manager, another Dave, gave us a challenge. If we could out drink him, or at least keep up with him, he would buy anyone still standing, breakfast. Sounded like a good deal, as we where always starving. We started drinking at around 2-30am. By 4-00am the local C.I.D. were in the club having a night cap after their shift. I'm sure they where very impressed to find me sitting naked on the dance floor, with my legs through the arms of my coat trying to stand up!
Only our Dave got breakfast, the rest of us where, --------------- not very well. We then had to drive from Wrexham, North Wales, to Aberdeen in Scotland for our next gig that night. WE WHERE LATE!
The next time we played at Fagins, we stayed upstaires in the club bar for the night, when everyone had gone home. but we wasn't supposed to go walk about. Tim went to the loo and set off the burglar alarm, which no one ever responded to. No matter how much we held our hands over our ears, or hid in our sleeping bags, the noise was deafning.
We didn't sleep that night either.

Please read on if you have time Smile

You're a brave man putting these up...! I had a feeling yesterday's upload was the civilised tip of the iceberg. Lovely reminders of a particularly silly decade, the years that fashion forgot. Thanks for the laughs, have a good New Year.
Cheers,

Great fun to see and to read, John, but full of sobering thoughts at the same time. For example:

- Was '73 really so daft? - answer, "Yes", unequivocally (even in the folk scene, which I was embarking on in a very minor way that year).

- Are we any less daft now? - Answer, "No!", at least in my case (though in entirely different ways). Perhaps we have just become a bit more responsible.

A wonderful and emotive sequence.

Hope you have a great New Year and a 2008 full of photographic opportunities. I look forward to mor of your photos, your stories and your humour! Very best wishes to you and yours,
Best regards,
Bill

BRILLIANT!!! Do you remember The New Seekers? It just took me back to those years although I think they were 60's. Sorry I have missed so many of your uploads..life is quite difficult here at the moment and I have little time to spare. Happy New Year to you and all your family!

I'll be following this little series of yours. Brings back loads of memories for me. In 1973 I was in my mid-twenties and wearing much the same kind of clothing as you lot. My hair down the middle of my back. Smile

Another excellent and colourful series of images which bring the year to life, it sounds like you lived it large and had lots of fun! I don't think you've changed too much judging by the sparkle in your eyes and the cheeky grin on your profile pic, looking forward to the next installment. Happy new year to you and yours, Ed

Wow, John, what a great series of shots. Strange how we all thought this was the height of fashion - but so exciting nonetheless. You must miss those heady days. And thanks for the PM; our best wishes to you and Julie for a very happy New Year Smile

Hi John.Playing catch up here.I dont suppose you did a gig in Edinburgh did you? If you did we would have claimed we were your roadies to get the 'chicks'. It was surprising how many fell for that little line! Especially the bands groupies! But you will know all about that ,wont you John!!! Anyway I better stop there,so have a Happy New Year.

Have been back and forth enjoying the stories, having a chuckle, and looking at the pictures a number of times over the past couple of days. Young, Free, and Single - you certainly did like to mingle John!! Yep thatís what it was like back then, smashing light hearted account of the time, you should take up writing. Hope to see some more in the future.

Dave.

I was only ten in 1973 but the 80's sound a lot like your 70's to me.

Great pictures and reminders of a brilliant period! I've read through both days uploads and don't seem to have spotted the name of your band?!
'73 was a great year, thanks for sharing your memories with us!
Some fantastic shots, that have aged well!
Maybe I'll upload my '73 pic and start a trend!
Happy New Year!

Super shots and wonderful write ups, crikey, you'll have some memories to look back on in your old age.
Peferred the 60's to the 80's myself, but a great reminder of times past.

Me in 73 Parts one and two, have been a cracking read John, the images complimenting the narratives. I have chuckled as I have read your stories, and wondered how it may all end, I have to say you have left us with an intriguing cliff hanger.
This has been an excellent idea, and no doubt a grand trip down memory lane for you in the execution of the idea. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Happy New Year John, may it be filled with happy times , adventures, and photo opportunities that who knows, you may want to recall and share in years to come.
