Memories Of Father.

By david deveson
This is the man who, after escaping from Changi Jail in Singapore during World War 2, walked to Australia, island by island, to escape the Japanese.
A journey of almost two years.
This is also the man who, when eventually finding my Mother who was a refugee in Perth, did what a man has gotta do.
I was born nine months later.
He was almost fifty five years of age at the time and Mother forty five.
She never forgave him.
That is his silver beer tankard from the Selangore Club in Kuala Lumpur.
It must be around a hundred years old.
Makes me feel old just looking at it sitting on my desk today.
I also see that we wear the same spectacles.
History repeats itself.
I must get my walking boots out.
See you all in two years.

A perfectly crafted still life - and, I suspect, a very emotional one for you.

Very good, yes. And what looks like his Breitling watch to go with the story. Thanks for sharing this 👌

Love reading your story. It made me feel very nostalgic. A perfect tossed about saved items to go with your story.

A still life of a life.
Photography can do various things, preserving memories and communicating feelings are high on the list. This speaks directly to me (parallel background, father scarred by the war in the Far East, mother who never forgave...), I suspect that it will speak to many of our generation.
This has held my attention for longer, and said more to me, than any other upload today. So a GEA is in order.
