You can listen to his music plus poetry through headphones, which give a very private experience. I preferred without, with the music resonating in the horseshoe of glass slats.

The insertion of a hat between ear and can won't do much for the sound quality!

He is hearing, but not listening.
Perhaps he is concerned about hygiene - using headphones which have been put to the ears of many others...

Well observed Moira. I would love to listen to the Gregorian chant through those slats. I bet it sounds wonderful.
