There is a certain charm about the canals and the colourful narrowboats that ply the waters. This is the Shropshire Union at the Boat Museum, from a time when we could visit so many places that we took for granted. Those days will hopefully return sooner rather than later.
I now see where the term narrowboats come from. Built to fit the canal width? Is this a specially built canal for showing off the boats, otherwise they must have a lot scrapes, when cruising the waterway. The boat looks in immaculate condition.

Narrowboats are built to fit the width of the locks rather than the canal itself. So we have narrow and wide canals. I think the wider boats would be called barges.
