I have photographed many bands and performers over the years from Status Quo, Elton John, Blondie, Crowded House, Genesis, Lightning Seeds, The Human League, A-ha, Yazoo!, Black, OMD, China Crisis and Erasure (to name a few).
But I have never been as excited as when I got the chance to go to an REM concert (at the Lancashire County Cricket Club, Old Trafford, Manchester). I arrived at 3.25 pm, the doors opened at 4pm, I grabbed a portion of chips and a litre of water to see me through the next six and half hours then made my way to the stage.
To my surprise there were only 10 rows of people in front of me so I knew I would get a clear view of the band. I took my 70-300mm lens (which is really a 105mm-450mm lens digitally) so getting close to the actions wasn't going to be a problem. I took 178 photos in total but most of them suffered with poor focussing or as I‘d used a high ISO (1000) they lacked detail.
This is lead singer Michael Stipe. The enigmatic Mr Stipe. He used every inch of the stage, including the speakers to express himself and his music.
If you like this picture check out my portfolio, there's a few more pictures of the concert there.
