For me this is an excellent image and I'm pleased to see you have focussed on his left eye and kept that in focus. I feel this should be placed in the upper third of the shot and a tight crop to really show Micky off with his wonderful blue eyes. I have uploaded a mod to demonstrate what I mean.

Wonderful shot of a great looking dog

Its a good sharp image Sam. Theres not any rule that says you need to include the ears, but in this case, with that lens, it would have been a better shot if you have flipped the camera into a portrait orientation. Still a nice shot. I agree with Eric that you have too much space on the left. Its good to leave space on the side where the subject is looking, just a little less changes this into a 10 X 8 format which is easier for printing.

I would suggest flipping the image horizontally so the dog looks left to right, and in the mod, Ive reduced some of the yellow cast on the chest.

Hope this is helpful,

regards

I am more than happy with composition. Shows how people see things differently. The right eye, as viewed, is sharp, the left not,but the nose is. This says the plane of focus is too far forward and needs to be set further back for me. Half a stop less exposure to bring detail back into all the white fur, then a bit of work on the shadows with the dodge tool.

A strong image in general.

Wow .....thankyou for all your comments and Mods here ..... i do like the shot myself alot but i put it up for critque to get your opinions on what you thought of it.

I have read all your comments and looked closely at the mods ....i do want to improve as a photographer and still feel i am learning alot having only been taking pic's for about 12 months.

I see lots and lots of fabulous images on this site and i want to get images like the best ones i see here.

I really do appricaite your time and efforts here ....i will take a closer look again when i have more time .....the original image does have the ears on it ........but i wanted the eyes to be the focus of the photo and thats why i cropped it.....many thanks again to you all for your time Sam Smile)
