Mike and the boys

By dudler
Mike Statham was a lovely bloke. Knew a lot, could make things work, could talk for England - and keep you listening and entertained.

He never refused anybody - so he turned up to do things (like cut the hedge) a week of four after you'd expected. But he came, did the job really well, and charged not a lot.

He died suddenly, over a decade ago. And everybody who knew him misses him. A lot.

And thanks to the miracle of photography he lives on.
Strange to think that up to a few generations ago that could never happen to ordinary blokes.

So sad. A good man lives on in many people's memories. Nice you thought of him today. What will you do about your hedge now.

What a great picture, and one with a story all those still around will remember so clearly. What photography is for. Smile

In a world that only appears to carry bad news all the time people like this are special. Unknown little people that just make your day feel better. The ones that you don't know how much they are missed until their gone.

Now we all feel as we know him a little thanks to you John...

People like Mike are the glue that holds communities together - and he's been preserved on film for all to remember. Well done John Grin

Good pic by the why - gives us a view into his character.

My next task, then, is to take a picture of Dave and Emma, who now do the hedges...

It's great to have a purpose in life!

Thank you, everyone.

You really have captured the mans personality here John, he really does look a great bloke in the picture as I'm sure he was. Smashing to have this picture as a reminder of this wonderful character.

Well you've captured a very nice portrait of him, which many don't think about until it's too late.
