Another taken at Six Flags, same tiger, Odin, different dive! 1/400th @f5.6 Not as sharp as I wanted, but it was very thick glass. Obviously, the meat was nearer to the glass!

WOW, very impressive. The focus on the meat is spot on. It almost feels like the piece of meat is the main focus and we are witnessing its last moments. Well done.

Many thanks, as with Thursday's shot, I really had to be quick - it only took a matter of seconds, after they threw in the meat, for the tiger to dive and retrieve it. I have several other shots from when he retrieves, eats and then pushes against the glass to resurface. Wonderful animals - but there is a sign near to the tank that warns people they might get sprayed - and not by water - typical tomcats!

Many thanks once again! My second RC, now I know why they cry at the Oscars Wink When we first got to watch the 'show', the tigers weren't too keen on performing - can't blame them really. I sort of lingered around a bit and waited for most people to vanish, got a better position near the front of the tank and, apart from a few bad reflections, think I was pretty lucky - right place, right time so to speak. I have to say, these are my favourite pictures to date and far surpassed my expectations, thank you all.

7 Jul 2006 6:17PM
EDIT: When I answered Paul's comment, I thought he was making reference to my having put the photograph forward for the competition, as I didn't tell anyone because I didn't think it would get anywhere - personally I prefer the other white tiger diving one - so at that time I had no idea that it had come second. It was only Sarah's (whipspeed) comment that made me log onto the site to see what the results were - only expecting it to have been mauled (forgive the pun) by experts. So thank you everyone for clicking my picture and giving me the confidence to put it forward.

I've found this via the forum & curiosity about your award winning shot.
Amazing shot in what must have beein very difficult conditions. Shooting through glass, presumably with very limited lighting, you've pulled off a shot that would have eluded most of us and shown us a view of the tiger quite unlike others, (except your own of course)

9 Jul 2006 7:09PM
Many thanks Denis, Stu and Penny. The actual enclosure for the tigers had the pool at the front with 4, I think, windows to view. People sat on the floor in front of this, sloping down towards the tank, with a pergola type roof with plants growing on it, nice and shady on a hot day, but a devil for the picture. The biggest problem was the reflection off the glass, and the boy with the stripey t-shirt was a horror, didn't stay still for a second! It was such a hot day, and the white tiger was the most reluctant of all of them; so they just left him to his own devices for a while; I think once he saw the others paddling around and then diving, he sort of got a bit jealous. Best bit was when he got out - he soaked everyone!
