It's a stunning view, beautifully captured and processed: never having been a member of a photographic club, I'm not sure what the judges look for in a competition so I cannot offer anything useful there. However, I would imagine it ought to receive a lot of plaudits, with that low mist cladding the hollows and the aerial perspective so well displayed. The only thing that I would remark on is the fact that the blue swimming pool catches my eye and draws my attention back to that spot. Perhaps it's presence is useful in providing a near focal point.......just not sure. I will come back later and see if any others comment on it. But it is superb image and one I'd be happy with were in in my portfolio.

A wonderful shot.

I agree re the pool your eye is drawn to it.

Being an ex member of a camera club I'm aware that some judges may love the pool and some may not!

If it was mine I would desaturate the pool.

all the best

This is a real beauty Phil, and I think if you desaturate the pool it should receive great acclaim!

Lovely colours and texture. The first thing I noticed was the pool before reading the above comments.

It's a winner in my eyes.

When I saw the thumbnail I thought I don't recognise this part of Whitby! Wink A wonderful capture, Phil, super colours, and just love that mist Smile Agree about the pool, and a judge would comment about the eye being drawn towards it Wink

I think variant 2 is my preferred one without swimming pool capturing attention, and fg being interestingly lit.

V2 is the better of the shots for me. I think the removal of the pool in V3 works, but the overall image in V2 is better, - lots ot good foreground interest, a path leading in towards the house, and all those layers of sky and mountains.

yep V2 it is, has a dreamy effect and you have kept the colour in the trees well - many back and forward views before decision madeWink

Excellent photography but it has to be v2 for me. Beautiful tones, detail and comp, Phil. Worth going for this one shot alone!

Just so glad my comment did not offend, Phil: having viewed V 3, I reckon it could be a winner with the judges. If you enter it I wish you all success with it.

Difficult choice you've got Phil. I think v2 is definitely a stronger composition. There is more foreground detail, a stronger diagonal in the image, and the truncated foreground tree in v3 has been moved left and back. As soon as I saw v2 it looked more balanced. Best of luck, Dave.

I would go with V2 Phil, the composition draws you in nicely to the center and the darker cloud helps to keep the energy in the image ( if the makes sense).

i think V2 works best ,in the comps its more about the judge than the pictures ,one will shoot down a photo copletely the next will mark up the same shot ,that is when i have to leave the room.
