HEAVY MONO RIVERSCAPE
These are modifications uploaded by other members of the photo above. Download the photo by right clicking Download Photo and clicking Save As.
V1 is very strong held back a bit by the broad HDR haloing around the Finnieston Crane and the adjacent buildings. It shouldn't be too much trouble to fix this (unless that's the effect you're after of course).
V2 is also very strong. It would make a great pano without the railing on the right but you'd either need to be out in the Clyde to avoid it or you could crop as much as possible out and clone the rest to make it look like more river.
Just my tuppenceworth.
I prefer the composition of v1, but the sky is a bit OTT, IMHO.
Will upload a slight crop mod to balance the picture as I see it.
It is also very uneven where you have burned in round the skyline, I think a slightly lighter hand would have been better....
thanks for crits
#1 is the stronger of these, I think. The focus of the view is undoubtedly the crane and I think it needs to be the focal point of the composition too. Compared to that big, bold structure, there's really nothing happening to the left of it so, to me, the only reason to include space to the left is to put the crane in a good place in the composition. #2 has way too much of that nearly dead space to the left and I'd say #1 has a bit too much, too.
I think Sooty's mod is an improvement but it maybe takes away too much of that space. This looks like a good composition for the rule of thirds: cropping from the left to put the crane about a third of the way across seems to me to be the way to go.
