Monday Night Challenge 11th July 2011

By digitalphotons
I thought I'd write myself and expand, for whoever it might be useful, a summary of hosting the Monday Night Challenge.

It's essentially two things :

posting a New Topic on the Forums;
uploading a photo of the topic at 8pm.

Some hosters start a new topic in the forum early on the Monday. And keep 'bumping' the topic up the thread, to encourage more people to join.

To start a new forum topic, hover mouse over "Forums" (4th link from left on the horizontal menu bar). A drop down shows "Start New Topic". A suitable group or category would be "Light-hearted Chat". Put "Monday Night Challenge" in the Title, followed by the content for the body of the message. Doing this ahead of 8pm, allows those participating to start posting in the thread.

The second part is the actual photo upload at 8pm of the chosen topic. Before which, the topic for the night needs to be chosen. And two photos prepared, one each to start and end the challenge.

The process is the same as a normal photo upload into your profile. Except that there is a tick-box entitled "One Hour Challenge", which enables everyone to upload their photos. The other thing to remember is to not use up your one photo upload per day limit.

You can copy and paste a copy of the rules, along with the theme, into the photo description. If you click and finish uploading too early, whoever's in the photo gallery will get a sneak preview of the topic.

Timing it, so you click on the "Upload" button about 30 seconds before 8pm allows you to do the next few steps - view the uploaded photo in your profile and copy the link from the address bar of the browser. Add a post to the MNC forum thread which would say something like "Click this link to see tonight's topic", and insert the link. The comments box for posting into the forum thread has a button to insert a link - a world/earth symbol with a chain link, which allows a link to be inserted into the post.

Check that the link is clickable, (by clicking it Smile ), and once at the page, check that the "Upload Modifications" shows up. If it does'nt, there is a bit of time to contact staff to sort it out, before participants start uploading photos.

If staff need to be contacted, the best way is to go to "Community" on the horizontal menu bar (10th link along from the left), then click on "Members Online". This will give a list of who's online, including staff. Staff usernames have a shield by their usernames. Click on their username and message them with full details in the title so they can fix the issue.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Rules:
1. The photo must be taken, processed and uploaded before 9:00pm (one hour).
2. The challenge is started in the main gallery and the gallery description box states what the challenge is. You enter the challenge by uploading your picture as a 'modification' to the challenge announced image .
3. Any submission that appears to be taken before the competition started will be disqualified.
4. Any submission posted after the 'Time's Up!' image is uploaded will also be disqualified.
5. The challenge is just for fun, the prize is your honour in taking part and winning.
6. The person who hosts is the judge for that week.
7. The winner gets to create, run, and judge the challenge the following week.

Good luck and have fun!
