Monday One Hour Challenge

By Goggz
Tonight's One Hour Challenge theme is

Shallow Depth of Field. Your picture must use a shallow depth of field to convey your message. It can be of any subject you wish.

Please note: messing in Photoshop or the like to achieve a blur effect is not acceptable. Any image that I think may have been manipulated in this way will be disqualified

For those of you who have not done this before you need to use a large lense aperture and/or distance between subjects to make sure that only a part of your image is in sharp focus. The rest should be blurred due to shallow depth of field.

The rules:

1. The photo must be taken, processed and uploaded before 9:00pm (one hour).
2. The challenge is started in the main gallery and the gallery description box states what the challenge is. You enter the challenge by uploading your picture as a 'modification' to the challenge announcement.
3. Any submission that appears to be taken before the competition started will be disqualified.
4. Any submission posted after the 'Time's Up!' image is uploaded will also be disqualified.
5. The challenge was originally just for fun but recently great prizes have been added, courtesy of Photoskill! See below for details.
6. The person who hosts is the judge for that week.
7. The winner gets to create, run, and judge the challenge the following week.
8. As this uses the modifications feature, the winner needs to be an e2 member but if not, another member may step in and upload a challenge for you.
9. If the winner is on holiday the following week he/she can select another member to upload and take care of the challenge.

OK, off you go!
Good luck and CYA back 'ere in an hour Smile

Cheers, Goggz

One thing that has not been clarified yet is the one months E2 membership as part of the prize. We still don't know if it is or not.

Holdup! Does the actual shot have to be taken within the hour, even if I did a great DOF shot the other day and submitted it?

Clarification required! Wink

Okay I am worried now!

Afraid it is, it must have been taken tonight within the hour, and having spent the best part of 12 years of my life round there, I know it's not light at this time of night Wink Probably spent some of that time on that train too come to think of it lol

Mark I think you may have given the game away with the fact your shot is in daylight!
ghostwalker 16 21 Togo
24 Mar 2008 8:59PM
Correct me if I am wrong but Goggz doesnt have access to the EXIF data, as the photo has been processed by GDImage or similar in order to upload it via PHP, which ephotozine is powered by. Hmmmm
ghostwalker 16 21 Togo
24 Mar 2008 9:01PM
My question is, how do we know all shots were taken within the hour, I coulda taken a shot of a tape measure weeks ago, without EXIF which Goggz doesnt have access to, you cant tell. Therefore, it doesnt seem all that fair.
ghostwalker 16 21 Togo
24 Mar 2008 9:02PM
I hate to be nit-pickin, but does anyone see my point? Try and get EXIF data from any of these shots.

Can someone please show me the EXIF data from my shot? Just to put my mind at rest? So I know we are all fair and square! Wink

Ghostwalker, You have a point, but if the Host of the challenge believes anyone is cheating, they could always ask the poster for the original shot.
Anyway, it's all meant to be a bit of fun. There's no fun in cheating Smile

If the shot was not taken within the hour of 8pm & 9pm tonight, then the image is rendered null & void - rules are rules.

Hey guys, just playing devils advocate here, I hope I have not offended, but it was just something that struck me. Thats what open forums are about. Hope I made fewer enemies than I did freinds.

Glyn, prove a shot of a ruler or tape measure as above wasnt shot within the last hour, show me the EXIF data?

That is my point, a good DOF is a good DOF. And nobody can prove when it was taken via this medium, so I will be disqualified immediatley because my shot features daylight, which could not be possible between 8pm and 9pm in march 2008.

I am not bitter lol, just curious! Wink

Yes, you are right, ghostwalker.
We can't tell most of the time (if the poster use save for web, that EXIF data won't be there anyway), so, we normally trust other people that the photos are taken within 1 hour.

I am not going to argue with you as i really dont give a sh*t. We just ask for the original and then check the EXIF DATA - simple as that. If the person who is hosting the challenge has any reason to think that there is fraud taking place then his/her decision is final, ok.
Now if that is not clear enough, then go speak to a mod or the epz team as this hour is supposed to be fun not a court room!!

Hmm I wonder how many takers you get Eviscera, we already know I errrr 'cheated' and uploaded a shot I had taken a while back.

Lets see shall we. As Eviscera says, upload away. However, I could upload a modified EXIF data via this text-box.

Devils advocate, again huh! Wink

Hehe, this looks really incongruous, but for you historians in the distant future, the reason the previous post looks so out of place is that the site was extremely slow to upload messages. I simply missed the fact that a huge argument had been provoked by ghostwalker...

dang! miss all the fun I do Sad
