Mono Rocks

By almiles
Had a great holiday in Northumberland, so much for the family to see and do! However I managed several early mornings out to make the most of the good weather. We were staying 10mins from Dunstanburgh and it has a lot of significance for my wife as one of her brother's ashes were scattered there. The sun rose pretty close to the castle making contrast control interesting. This is from the first morning I went there, in the company of my brother in law, Kel55 (thanks for looking after Sookie the dog!). I know this isn't an original image given how well photographed this area is but it was very exciting to get to such an iconic place! Smile

It's not easy to get something original from here, but it's always nice to get something as good as this.
A moment to think while a long exposure ticks away.

It may have been done before but not by you Al - you've controlled the contrast really well and its a really good image. Is the colour version going to follow?

The mono creates a very dramatic and beautiful photo. So much power in those stones.

As Jeremy says this certainly does not disappoint. Beautifully captured. The exposure balance and toning look spot on Alan.
Might be a tiny bit soft on the foreground rocks but looks like a sharpening rather than focus issue to me. Easily corrected with a touch of localized sharpening and not enough to spoil the impact, so gets my badge today.

A poetic composition crafted from the finest hand...

A stunning monochrome, one which makes one yearn to get back to my roots, and one which has been so very well observed, composed and exposed. "Simply Stunning Al" Glad you had a great time in Gods Country...

I wasn't wowed by the colour version of this particular morning's shoot Geoff but I had another 2 mornings at Dunstanburgh trying to improve matters so will see how they edit out. Had one great low-tide sunrise and one stormy high-tide morning at Bamburgh which look like they might get some decent results.

Late to the party but have my badge too for this cracking moo, Al. It's not an easy place to photograph and exposure control can be very challenging but this is expertly handled. Congrats
