More from Queen St Mill

By canoncarol
Many thanks for all your votes / comments on yesterdays series.

A few images taken in Queen St Mill, Briercliffe, Lancs. The Mill still produces tea towels, hand towels, aprons etc and the machinery is fully operational and powered by steam. It closed back in the 1980's and is now run as a working museum.

Indoor photography is not my best subject but I was quite pleased with the results on this occasion.

A fascinating set, Carol, how wonderful that the old machines are still in good running order and made use of.

No, not the easiest locations to photograph, when you have mixed lighting inside, plus daylight coming in from outside, but well handled here, Carol Smile Reminds me of the Armley Mills Industrial Museum in Leeds Smile

Superb images of this most interesting mill, Carol.
As a former handicraft teacher, I love the work bench and tools in V7, particularly the leg vice.

Fantastic indoor photography Carol,

My mum worked in the cotton mills before she married my dad, she was Loom Watcher. After they met Dad made her finish in the mill and go into printing, she worked so hard there too, Both jobs were dirty and noisy and she worked in her bare feet. What a terrible time she had.

Good processing Carol

An interesting set. Good to see it's kept working and alive.

Embrace the mixed lighting.

Your lens has stabilisation so that 1/40 should be fine especially if you've a steady hand to start with (the lens will need to work less hard) so you could easily go to ISO 400 (even 800 would be ok) just to enable a smaller aperture for the benefits that brings.

I would say mono is worth a go, though I do like the muted tones here.
