More mist

By helenlinda
Thanks so much for all your clicks and comments on the park fence.
Two more from the same morning, but of the same view. I was really drawn to this line of benches under the tree. I think the closer shot is the stronger image, but the second sets the scene.
Tomorrow will be a more cheerful upload!!
Thanks for looking
Hope you have enjoyed a lovely sunny day as we have here in Birmingham

Extremely atmospheric, excellent tree silhouette, good strong line of benches and fencing against the misty background.

V1 for me, for the low viewpoint giving drama. Love the quiet formality of the composition.

No1 is the stronger as you say Helen.I would actually like to see this without the mist. There is more fencing and pillars obscured by the mist.Would be a good addition to the lines already there with the benches and fencing.Good scattering of FG leaves and good framing with the tree.

Super images , especially v1 as the tree frames the fence and benches nicely drawing your eye to the background .

I think the tighter crop works well. An even tighter crop in from the left across the middle of the trunk and in a bit from the right to lose the end of the third bench could be stronger. I love the misty atmosphere. (Bet it would look great with someone sat on one of the benches too!)

Not so sure about V2 - but V1 is an intriguing shot and certainly captivated me - but why? I think the dark into light composition (and framing) helps as does the outrageous law flouting split right through the middle of the image - which just proves rules are there to be broken. The slight angle of the benches and fence create some useful tension so this is not a serene calming image at all - and the mist adds atmosphere.

The part bench to the right probably doesn't bring too much to the party and my guess is that the image would benefit were you to crop this out.

Best wishes

Thanks Ian, Jon and Robert. Its really helpful to see where others would make the crop how others see the elements that are not really contributing to the composition. I didn't go for a really close crop because I din't want to loose too much of that horizontal line, but you have given me another way of looking at it. Robert I just love those words "the outrageous law flouting split". Would make a good title!!

Isn't it amazing how different these two versions look?
The strength of #1 lies partly in the absence of the misty sky corner, the crop emphasising the fallen leaves and the contrast between horizontals, verticals and diagonals in the collection of banches and fencing, the pale centre surrounded by darker tones. #2 has more mist as per title, it is clearly a misty morning at altitude; it is more straightforwardly pictorial, including the almost complete shape of the tree which becomes the subject of the image rather than its frame.
I like both, very much, and equally. I tend to agree - just - that the end of the bench on the right of #1 could be better removed, and if cropping I would suggest taking the crop line through the nearest fence-post to retain dark framing.

Another fine pair of atmospheric images, Helen. Think I prefer V1, and though I like the wider format in V2, the eye is drawn to the white sky top right.

Thanks for your comment Trev. I agree with what you have said. The wider view is mainly there to give a little more of the context.
