Morning in Pangandaran

By arhab
Cloudly morning, this taken after the rain. Any comment welcome, especially about the exposure and composition. Do you think, this is too dark?

A very restfull scene Smile i like the way the boats are arranged in a line and the color in the sky overall just a few things i would correct:-

1) The image looks very noisy....have tried to reduce it in the mod but the output is not very good largely due to the uploaded images lo res so the sky looks a lot softer than i would prefer
2) As it stands right now i think the sky and boats compete for attention, in the mod i have cropped a bit from the top to bring balance.
3) The image right now looks a little flat and could do with contrast especially to bring out the sky better, in the mod i have attempted this

While i havent done this in the mod you may also want to try cloning out the boat in the middle to see if it improves the shot Smile

Hope this helps, i i think if you try the above on the original image this would carry a lot of impact

Yeah i agree with Devlin i do think its a bit dark but by upping the contrast that might help , i think the composition if good particularly like the diagonal line thru the image (good eyeSmile) keep taking pics yer on the right track GrinGrinGrin

Taking a lead from Prabh, I've I've produced a mod in which I've made a slight alteration to the colour balance, then I selectively increased the saturation in the yellow and red channels only which has brought just a touch of colour to the sky.
I've made a similar crop (16x9), removing a slice from the LHS in the process.
Finally, I (smart) sharpened it 50%@0.8.
As for it being to dark, personally, I'd say not. It was taken quite early in the morning when the light, or the lack of it, was as we see it here.
You could brighten it; I prefer to use curves to lighten it but it's not something that I'd do.

Quite interesting but the weather has resulted in things being a bit dark. I would brighten a bit and possibly, depending on what it then looks like, add a touch of contrast. You could do this with curves, but even the simple brightness and contrast tool would be sufficient.

As has been said the noise is a major issue, especially on this resolution.

With my mod I dealt with the noise slightly differently. I inverted a high pass filter set at 2.2 pixels, altered the opacity to suit, created a mask and again with the opacity set real low painted out the craft on the horizon, just to get some crispness back.

Using Vivesa, I warmed the sky up a touch and reflected that in the water. Again, using a mask, I painted in the shadow of all the craft and finally cropped to the Golden Ratio.
