Morning Solitude

By MrsS
Left Paul to his own devices for the weekend (All together now, AHHHH!) and went off to visit my family for my Dad's Xmas bash in Sunny Wiltshire! Was forced to slum it and drink Verve Cliquot in my neice's hot-tub - - total bummer!! Wink

Just HAD to take my gear (well, you would, wouldn't you!!) and then needed to find somewhere to go to grab sunrise on Saturday.

Daylight eventually dawned and I headed off to Avebury (a mere 16 miles away!) to catch daylight dawning! Wink Much to the amusement of my family who thing I'm totally barmy! (Speak at your peril!! Tongue)

Not a soul around, car-parks locked and warnings everywhere about being clamped - - BUT I was there to take shots, so ...........

I'm sure you'll let me know what you think - - I think this may well be the first time I've ever gone anywhere and not had any support or company Smile

Playing catch-up now, as I've missed a whole weekend's worth of shots - - so please forgive me if I vote and run Smile

Thanks for dropping in - - - will add the techy stuff in a bit - - hope you've had a gr8 weekend, I have Smile

OK - - techy stuff - - 1/13sec @f22 ISO100 focal length 17mm .9ND Lee Soft Grad

I love the warm lighting and composition. I have been to Avebury on many occasions and it is tricky to capture but I think you have succeeded.

I,m thinking that big rock just looks like its having a quick look out of the corner of its eye at you I would imagine it saying "its bad enough the sun wakening me but to have a camera stuck in my face is more than enough"
My kids used to say I could see faces in rocks every where so this is a quiet afternoon and I found one in your photo

Lovely shot. And thanks for the technical stuff - it may be second nature to some, but for us beginners it's a god send to learn how you capture this sort of scene. So thanks.

There's a long snout on the face I found !

Bonkers? Yup. We have to be to go tonkin around on our tod with an eye for a shot and not think what/who could be behind us.
But look what you miss if you don't, a corker of a capture in wonderful light.
Super one, and the hardship you had to tolerate Wink where better to be in this weather than a hot-tub Smile Lucky girl

"Rock hard in the soft south"....another out of your comfort zone moments eh!
Seems you are getting by without the comforts quite well.
SUPERB LIGHT.just a picky moment,if the two left hand stones were slightly apart think it would be even better.

Thanks James, Roy, Derek, Beverley,Keith and Peter Smile

Don't rely too much on what I do, James - - most of the time, I have no idea, either!! Wink

Some special stuff from Calumet, Roy - about 2 a piece - - but the print-outs do look gr8 Smile

We were sat in there, Beverley, whenit started hailstoning! Nothing for it, but to sit it out, and cover our glasses so that nothing watered down the Champers!! Wink

Would've loved to have got that shot, Keith - - tried everything, but the so and so's whoo stuck 'em up there obviously didn't have EPZ'ers in mind!! Wink

Cheers All

It's a cracking image. A very strong composition and the light on the nearest rock is great. Looking at the grass would suggest that another stop or two of ND grad could have been used.

LOL, Keith!! Smile

Thanks Mike, did consider it, but I've been taken to task on over-graddding in the past - - and being on my own with no-one to discuss it with "How much grad are YOU using then ???" Wink

P'haps next time Smile

Thanks all

I was hoping to see the hot tub photos and all i get is a bloody rock. Oh well it's not a bad looking rock, it's bare, it's shapely and the beauty of it is... it doesn't answer back.
Good one Fran.

Nice shot Fran, I was in almost the same spot on Friday evening, about 10pm, equally quiet and deserted trying to get a night shot with stars, but foiled by the clouds.
