Morpeth Castle

By RockArea
The Gatehouse of Morpeth Castle dates back to 12th Century and was used as a courthouse in this unruly border land. It stands on a plateau overlooking Morpeth and the Wansbeck River. This was taken on a frosty morning last week.

Lovely image with a very effective lead-in. They probably tried my ancestors there - they were Border Reivers (infamous villains who raided each other, stole sheep and other property along the borders).

My! Lynne's admitting familial atrocities and Ann's burst into song. There's plenty of life in the site yet! Thanks for your comments folks.

Great capture and a lovely composition, David, with the path making a good lead-in towards the castle.
