I like the composition, nicely balanced. The ape I think is only just sharp enough - espcially its eyes- a bit of selective sharpening around the eyes should help. The background is IMO a little bit harsh and distracting - wider aperturee would have given narrower depth of field. Also there seems to be motion blur in the background, so a wider aperture might have helped this as well. After the event, you could try selectively doing a light gaussian blur on the background

Good shot Mike, maybe if you had zoomed in it would have blurred the background and made the animals more defined? Just my idea.
