Mourning Dove (Zenaida macroura)

By teocali
The Mourning Dove (Zenaida macroura) - another capture taken whilst on holiday in June on Cape Cod.
Description taken from The Sibley Field Guide to Birds of Eastern North America:-
Common and widespread in many suburban and agricultural habitats with mix of open ground and brushy cover. Usually in small groups. Forages mainly on the ground for seeds and frequently seen on overhead wires or on the ground. Our most slender dove, with long pointed tail and relatively narrow, pointed wings. Subtley coloured in brown and grey; generally warm brown with buffy undertail covers and black spots on wing coverts. Wings produce a light airy whistle on take-offf. Song is a mournful hooting, often mistaken for an owl.
Settings:- V1 F/5.6 1/400sec ISO500
V2 F/5.6 1/500sec ISO250
Both at 420mm manual handheld

Stunning shots of this lovely dove - the colour and detail in V1 is exquisite, we get them in South Africa as well but they are very elusive - often heard rarely seen - great captures - Ina

Two super shots, Sylvia. Both absolutely pin-sharp and well posed, too. The background of #1 is a little cluttered but there's nothing you could have done about that.

Two very well captured images Sylvia, my preference is V1, showing this lovely dove in its natural environment. Thank you for the interesting description.
