Mt Ruapehu from Nikaunui

The mountain, an active volcano, is over 100 kilometres away and rarely visible. It took lots of early morning trips to get this. f/16 at 1/125th second, with 300mm lens (450mm in terms of 35mm camera)

I really like how the tree in the foreground makes the volcano behind seem less important yet it's still just as magnificent. I also think that how the landscape has been split into three sections of different colours is really effective
