My Own Private Mauerweg (3)

By GwailoAngMo
This well built up section of Zimmerstra√Ÿe was a more open space, adjacent to the wall. The tall building in the background is the Asel Springer building, deliberately built there against what was a border in 1959.

Further down a block and half on the right hand side from where I took the photo is a memorial to a bricklayer, Peter Fechter , whose horrible death in 1962 shocked me. I was only seven at the time, but some things one does not forget. Let¬’s say it was a formative experience that led me to believe that building walls is no solution to problems.
