Name that cloud formation

By jarendell
I took this a couple of years ago when I was looking out from my balcony where I lived, and, 2 years later, here it is. I have never seen a cloud formation like this is my life, and believe me, Ive seen a few!

Fascinating, I've just been doing a bit of research (sounds better than Googling...), can't find details of anything similar.

I once saw this type of cloud formation after a storm in Northampton, a fantastic sight when seen with the naked eye.

I assume it is some form of Stratus, my Gxx research drew a blank too, did find the Cloud Appreciation Society website, mmmm. Whoever built that one?

Oh well back to photography, a great sky shot, keep it in case aliens ever invade.

Lovely shot of some fine cloud formations !......I'm fairly sure that they are 'Lenticular' clouds (ie. shaped like a convex lens).....hope that helps !!

Hi James......As a suggestion, have a look on Google > Images > Lenticular Clouds........there's loads of pictures of this sort of cloud formation, more or less
confirming my thoughts.....but I'm no expert, so have a look at google when you have the time.....they're fascinating to see !!!!

Great to see a cloudscape without anything else in the frame. Clouds are great, and these particular ones are special indeed.
