Name that tune

By Coast
This was a grab shot in Leicester Square, London, when I was there on February 28th. I had just come from the Bailey Stardust Exhibition at the NPG. It was raining and I spotted this young chap sat on the floor in the pouring rain with the traffic cone as his microphone. He was humming/half-singing classic tunes from the shows and in the main getting bemused looks from the passers by.

I pulled the camera out and as I switched it on I noticed this well dressed lady approaching him. I just had time to swing the camera up and shoot. Sadly missing the critical focus as it falls behind my subjects but I caught the decisive moment I wanted in her dropping money into his coffee cup.

I waited and took a few more shots but this was the one and although its not pin sharp where I'd want it I do like the story it tells and the contrast between what may be these two people's worlds.

Interestingly a number of people dropped some cash into the cup. He was actually quite tuneful!

I dropped some coins in as after taking pictures it would be rude not too. He must have had almost 30 in the cup so it looked like as mad as it appears, he was onto a nice little earner.

Anyway your C&C welcome although I know its not sharp as it should be. Thanks for clicking in.

Personally I think technical perfection is a relatively minor issue... it's the image that matters. As Anselm Adams said, "There's nothing worse than a sharp picture of a fuzzy concept."
This is superb.
