Natures Patterns

By Landlord
Came across this this morning while out on otter watch... rushed back to the houe to grab the camera.

I have never seen ice form in this way, like concentric circles. What you can't really make out in this image is that 2 other areas (one to the right & one infront of the inner dam) seem to be forming something similar.... strange.

Got lucky with the light, 1st images were all grey and miserable then the sun shone for me.

No sign of the otters today..... so far!.

It is incredible the ice patterns that develop but I have never seen this sort before. Just shows you need your camera slung over your shoulder at all times (or a compact stuck in your pocket).

Lovely shot and good ripples.

Lovely shot this Phil! The circular shapes of the ice make a great focal point for this vibrant winter image. Nicely difused reflections on the ice which don't detract from the circles. Must have been very cold here for that pattern to occur - water rising from the hole in the centre freezing off again and again.

A grand shot.

Intersting pattern right enough. I was trying to work it out myself but Andy's explanation makes sense.
