This bike is the astonishing Norton Nemesis. It is the prototype for a planned production run which never happened due to Norton going bankrupt. The performance specification for this machine is mindblowing, ie. 0 to 60 mph in well under 2.5 seconds and a top speed well in excess of 220 mph. If you have a watch with a second sweep, just look at how long 2.5 seconds is, and then imagine you're now doing 60 mph from a standing start! There are many design features of note on this machine. It is built around a cast aluminium frame which the engine forms part of the structure. The front damper cylinders, brake cylinders and mudguard are one aluminium casting, as is the mono-shock rear suspension assembly. The front and rear axles together with the mono-shock assembly pivot pin are made from large diameter steel tubes.

The engine is a 1500cc V8 based on Formula 1 technology. The predicted output was 235 bhp and 111 lb-ft of torque. It was also predicted that it could be developed to produce a staggering 285 bhp! The large lug on the right of the engine, formed part of the mono-shock assembley pivot pin mounting.

In this rear threequarter view of the bike, you can clearly see the cast aluminium frame and mono-shock assembly, and how the frame, suspension and engine fit together.

Amazing machine.
There has been a massive bun fight over the Norton name, pretty much ever since they went into liquidation. However, the latest folks who think they own the rights to it are these guys:
They've made a nice job of a modern interpretation of the Commando but I'd like it a lot more if it was made in England.

Up-date to the above post. I was having another look at the site listed above and found to my amazement that the brand has been bought-out and is once again British. I really like it now.

Me thinks the guys at Norton read 2000AD! If only they'd built a production run.

This would be a phenomenal bike if was built and if it was British that would be the icing on the cake. Smile
The only trouble is I remember that Carbon Fiber was invented in the UK but it was deemed "of being of no use and too expensive to produce" why Oh why do we get it so wrong so often??????? Sad
