Nicole in Wonderland

By markst33
My wife's niece taken down the local park last week. I decided to have a go at editing it in a kind of fantasy world. Very much making it up as I went along. Haven't really been shooting much these last few months as I was studying in college at night so now that I am finished I am hoping to get back shooting and editing again.

As usual all constructive C&C's welcome.

It is a beautiful photo of a child who is fascinated by the magic light in front of her. The small light sources surrounding her add to the fairy-tale impression. However, I would darken that bright spot in the top left-hand corner. The eye is automatically drawn to the bright areas and IMHO, that spot doesn’t add anything to your image – in fact, it is distracting. I don’t know if you have modified the background colors but I have never considered orange/red to be “magical”. Perhaps a modification (white balance?) to move the colors towards an enchanting blue/green shade?

Overall, a wonderful image. Make sure you print a copy for her . . . . digital files tend to go missing while young folks grow up.

Good advice about making hard copies from George. I tend to make all 8 X 10s these days.
Seems like you have her in fantasy land here, just as you had planned. TG

Very interesting and well done. I like to see something different and this certainly is! It works well and the parents should be pleased with this. Any mod changes the image and basic idea in cases like this.

I hope this is one that Tanya maanges to see and comment on - exactly her area, I reckon.

Al lthe comments above are sound (especially George's, about prints), and I'll only add that i get the idea of light from the top left corner - it could, perhaps, work better if it was more linear, like the 'Jesus beams' that landscapers sometimes have breaking through the clouds from a hidden sun.

Its just a first draft if you like. I was thinking about the beams myself too Dudler.

Lovely, and very well done.
Cropping a bit from the left will remoe that bright area and make her placement in the frame less central.
I can't say I've particularly thought about it before but I do agree that blue/green is more magical. especially for a woodland setting.
And an excellent suggestion from George about getting a print done.
