"Night Ballet"

By RonnieAG
Another from my KS studio.

My thanks to all who CandC'd on Before and After, but as V 2 was the more popular, perhaps I should have organised things as After and Before.

It's been a few days since your studio provided us with an image, Ronnie, and this is a magnificent 'come-back'. The very slight diagonal is just right, and even the stem disappearing out of image at the top works as the focus softens along its length.

There's a few artefacts that show up on my monitor to the left of the subject Ronnie, if you lift the contrast up a little I'm sure you will spot them on your monitor. This new monitor I have has a very wide gamut and shows up details like this really well over other monitors, so it may well not be immediately apparent to you, but they are there I assure you.....Ade

I have sent you a PM, Ade: I'm afraid I am unable to detect what you and Trev are seeing even after importing the original into Photoshop and examining it there.
However, i don't doubt for a minute there's a's just that I cannot see it and thus correct it.

I think it's EPZ now Ronnie, I just downloaded the image to tweak so as to emphasis the problem and as soon as I open it up in PS it doesn't show????.......That's bloody weird, but I assure you it's there????

Despite intensively trying, I have not yet managed to identify the problem, but I have now posted a version in which I have enhanced the black b/g.......I'll be interested to know if it makes any difference, and if so, I'll need to consider always enhancing the b/g if I take any more shots in my KS studio.

Hi Ronnie, V2 is great nothing showing now, I think as Ade said different monitors make a difference! My monitor is 28 inches and back lit so picks up far more detail, I had to have a very good Monitor because of my Judging commitments, did not get much change from £800.00

I have an Inspiron One which usually shows up all sorts of defects in images. Have to say I still can't locate what's supposed to be showing in V1 which I actually prefer. Must give it a go looking on my wee Toshiba notebook which has a scary ability to show things I never can detect on anything else!

Yep, it's all gone in V2 Ronnie, perhaps like Trev it's our monitors just showing up the imperfections in V1 I've no idea why that is??.....Interesting that I wasn't the only person to notice it though, so much for expensive LED technology eh?......

A nice shot Ronnie. I did upload a mod with contrast upped to show artifacts in the whites on the left flower. Its not a problem since it cant be see by most people, - and I couldnt see it either on my wide gamut monitor until I increased contrast, - so nothing to worry about I think.

What did you do to alter the V2, as I can see the same there if I crank contrast. This is usually got something to do with re sizing, - if youre using Photoshop, make sure the method used is bi-cubic. Especially if this is a small crop from a much larger image.

And, about LED technology, - its still an LCD monitor, exactly as before, it simply uses LEDs to brighten the edges only, - a money scam in other words.

Thanks, Willie.
Regarding V 2, I imported the original into Photoshop, used the quick selection tool to select the b/g, then using the histogram I dragged the black marker from left to extreme right.
I still haven't seen the original artefact problem so still don't know what Trev, Ade and yourself are seeing.
But I think it might be wise to ditch using my black card b/g method as I won't be able to prevent a similar problem in future.
And many thanks for your mod.

What I saw, and uploaded Ronnie is not in the background, its in the left flower. So I could never see anything wrong with the background, and might be inventing things. If there was something there that could be seen by some, its likely their monitors need calibration.

Please don't stop showing us these beautiful shots Ronnie.
Ronnie your image give great delight and enjoyment to so many here, I would't stop doing what you do so well because of one monitor, it could be that Ade has it too contrasty, I don't see anything wrong with the background and my monitor is calibrated every 28 days with a good quality calibrator.

Having read your prior comment about not uploading any more flowers on black background for a while, I had to take a look at this. I do see what is being referred to as artifacts on the back petal of the left flower - this is more what I call pixelation, as there is not a smooth transition between the colours, but large squares of colour.

I don't know how this happens, or if it is the monitors, or the resizing, but I would like to know the "mystery" of it.

There is nothing wrong with the black of the background, and the image is very pretty and finely focused. I hope you get to the bottom of it!

First class flower photography Ronnie, I don't see any artefacts at all! Methinks the Big O has been on the strong cider again or he's been watching too much Cash in the Attic! I reckon a trip to specasavers to get the old mince pies tested is in order!WinkGrinTongue
