Night Race

By MattB1987
I had an exciting day yesterday at the Lotus Cup UK race at Snetterton, and in particular the night race! I had a hard time trying to get some shots but I persevered and got a few I was happy with, this being one of them.

Thank yo for looking at my photo and of course all comments and critiques are much appreciated.

A man after my own heart! I like what you've done here. I love also that you've captured the glowing discs. You'll probably have noticed that when the car is approaching you, and with a slow shutter speed, it's impossible to get the whole car in focus. This can work to your advantage as it helps to give a sense of movement and speed. What I try to do is try to ensure that the driver area is the part in focus, which means that the front and back are out, and the results can look quite dramatic. I also find that autofocus can't really keep up, so I pre-focus on a part of the track, pan the car keeping the driver as close to the centre of the frame as possible, and then fire the shutter at the desired spot. If I manage one acceptable frame in 40 I'm happy - in the old days I went through dozens of rolls of film!

Best regards,

Ewan Smile
