Night Train

By Sezz
No.10 - Dr Syn, pulls the Royal Saloon Carriages into Dungeness Station last night. This is about 7.45pm and it had just stopped raining. The passageners disembarked for a Fish & Chip Supper before returning to Hythe later. I have got closer images of the train but only a few with the light on and I also liked the inclusion of the lighthouse in this one which places the image for sure in Dungeness Smile

I'll include a crop, V2 which is perhaps a better composition?

Thanks as always for your time, your thoughts/comments are very welcome.

Regards - Sarah J x

V1 for me. You don't mention the wild flowers - this covers three of the vital ingredients of Dungeness!

I prefer v2 for the composition. The lighthouse actually looked like a post to me before I read your description and as such looked better cropped out.

I like both Sarah and V1 certainly places the image, but I think V2 has the stronger composition. Excellent processing as well.

Sounds like the perfect evening out - a steam train ride and fish 'n' chips! A great shot, Sarah, with a good strong lead-in of the railway lines. Has to be V1 for me Wink

The gloomy skies have certainly added to the overall composition Sarah

They add more intensity to the fireSmile

Overall composition for me is better in v1 as it includes the lighthouse.

Perhaps a crop off the bottom would make Dr. Syn more prominent.... but then you lose the "portrait" rails as a lead in.

Difficult to choose, Sarah, but I feel I am leaning towards v2. More compact yet not losing any of the depth and perspective of the shot. Chish & Fips sounds very good!Grin...and a pint of something local to wash them down, of course.

A super image and both great so I'm not going to choose. I love the composition and the wet ground and the heavy sky look great.

Thank you everyone, I really appreciate your thoughts very much!

I agree V2 perhaps the better comp' - I have a lot more of the train closer in but just went with this one for the lighthouse really. Work Is for RH&DR and so the landmarks are important.. I'll upload one or two more once I get them processed.. Once again thanks x

I like No 2 best because it emphasises the people and the train and the wildflowers and the lighthouse are something of a distraction in No. 1. But it's horses for courses!

I would have loved to have seen this train with its headlight blazing, bombing along the barren desert of Dungeness to the chippie.
And one day I will. God willing.
