I've done a B/W conversion and uploaded a mod. This sidesteps the problem of the red colouration!

Interesting to read the pro's comments. Not sure I agree with everything he says, but he does make some valid points.

You could perhaps have loaded this as a pano Ollie to get the large version looking larger. It's a bit small to really see well. For me, the middle and right shots are fine but I think the left shot let's the collection down a little .... nothing in it to attract the attention really. That said, I like the right shot very much .... full of atmosphere.

As for the red colouration I actually like it and can't see anything wrong with it myself.

Hope you're doing well Smile

Fine atmospherics Ollie, and I don't have a problem with the red. Thanks for the PM.

Must say I disagree with everything in the pro critique... that said, it's probably wiser to listen to Gary than it is to listen to me lol. Personally I find it immensly athmospheric, much more than it would be with just the middle pic. I find the 2 outer pics essential in conveying the mood. I'm not interested in going to see her concert when viewing the middle pic, but much more so because of the atmosphere of the outer ones. And absolutely love the red. if mood was a colour it would be this one

Well, quite the discussion on this one, so I'll jump in. I like the red color, it converys a sultry mood which seems to suit the singer. The left image doesn't wow me, but the center and right really set a mood. I think I would like to see something similar to the right on the left. I think it's a fine club image, and I like the intimate feeling it conveys....How's that for my 2 cents worthSmile

Indeed, it has turned into quite a discussion. Smile

When giving a 'pro' critique, I apply the same rules I have to consider when submitting my own work. The fact that such a heavily red image would be unsuitable doesn't mean it's not a nice image (The mic stand, which is easier to see in CB's mod, still bothers me though).

I have many images I've taken, which personally I love, but I wouldn't submit them anywhere as they are unsuitable for publication. Silhouettes are a fine example of this.

Next time you're in Smith's (or your newsagent of choice) have a quick flick through pretty much any major music magazine and you may then see what I'm getting at. Wink

Holy doodle Ollie! - a critique from a pro critiquer first comment! sure hope they never find my pf!
I, of course, don't agree with him as I know your style - I say go for what moves you, and not to please a majority - they will catch on sooner or later - rebellious street kids really are the ones who set fashion trends - the red is brilliant and sets the mood for a night club, sultry music and Nina's intimate voice. The spotlight is on the mike - good on you - that is what is needed to hear her through out the space. The microphone, the song, then it's over....which is sad because her music is so beautiful. I think your choice of images is bang on!
Enjoyable as always!
hugs to all,

Having listened to the music, I agree that the red suits the sultry music and intimate voice and gives the viewer the feel of an intimate venue.

has to be seen large, but I'd like to see it larger still, caught the club atmosphere so well, a meloncholic bluseyness. I like the poetic nature of the arrangement with the empty mic stand and the guitar laid to rest, I don't think it works so well as a triptych, but as part of a sequence of images, that offer a poetic narrative on the gig I can't fault them. I have no problems at all with the red.

Got to admit the middle pic seems fine for me, the mic is not too in the way, not always easy shifting left or right unless you have a press pass.

terrific set of images and for me the two end images make the set. can't agree with the pro assesment. sounds like if you want to be published be safe and dull? and not red.

This is really interesting. I too love the sultry red of the images which suits the music and the mood, and the triptych does it in spades for me.

What interests me is why mag editors would not use an image like this, when clearly it appeals. Curious to know - is it a techy thing?

Pure reds and blues lose all their impact in CMYK, unfortunately. They tend to look very flat and lifeless.

Another reason is that many pic editors will often want consistency throughout their publication.
