Northern Norway 1

By saltireblue
In July, the middle of the midnight sun season (!), we visited northern Norway for a few days of rugged and raw nature.
Despite it being the midnight sun season, we experienced no such delights as seeing the actual sun, as this first image from the trip shows. The weather, despite being on the dreich side of fair, actually enhanced the scenery as seen by a photographer's eye, so I did complain not...
More to follow from the Varanger Peninsula in due course.

This particular image was taken on the road between Hamningberg and Vardo¸ .

Many thanks to all who showed and shared their interest in my last upload - much appreciated as always.

Thanks for bothering.

That remarkable cloud formation almost steals the show. I can imagine Loki concealed behind it, desperate to spring a deadly surprise on Balder . . .

Beautiful recession on the pieces of land and the light on the water is a bonus.

Does make you wonder why Norwegians didn't emigrate a long time ago? 😁😁

This excerpt is from Knut Hamsun’s Pan (1894):
“Night was coming on again; the sun just dipped into the sea and rose again, red, refreshed, as if it had been down to drink. I could feel more strangely on those nights than anyone would believe.”
p.s. a great Nordic seascape/landscape, works beautiful in b&w .. one thing i miss is a Viking ship moving silently in the distance..

Although you had not seen the sun but I had no idea about midnight sun, only heard it before viewing this image...

What I would call a "broody" scene. You must admire how the image had been built up in different layers of tones and almost reaching the sun. Yes, a very moody landscape and not at all "dreich"

Total drama - amazing cloud - an image in itself - mono suits perfectly.

That's a very ominous looking sky! A fine capture, Malc, the mono conversion giving it extra 'moodiness' 👍

The many shades of grey/black gives a ponderous sensation-- enhanced by the dark heavy clouds!

Thirteen's an unlucky number, and Alfred is rather superstitious, so I think you'd better have another award to be on the safe side.Wink

Excellent, Malc. Looks like there's going to be some weather happening.
If i knew anything about photographism i'd be tempted to comment on the
wonderful tonal range, the perfect composition and maybe even venture as
far as the clarity and texture of the cloud formations. Although i'd probably forget
to mention the light and the atmospheric broodiness of the scene. Very nicely done Sir.
