Northern Rail Overcrowding

By philtaylorphoto
12 December 2018. Nanchester. Picture shows overcrowding on the 8:17 service from Bolton, Lancashire to Rochdale, Lancashire via Manchester Victoria operated by Northern Rail. On this occasion, a 2 carriage train was being operated, where a 4 carriage train is needed. The line is frequently criticised for its late running services, some of which are the most overcrowded in the country. The overcrowding has been axacerbated by commuters being encouraged to not drive into Manchester when the city's two football teams Manchester United and Manchester City are playing whilst the Christmas Markets are being held.

NR is an absolute joke Phil.
Timetables are works of fiction!
Had two trips to Manchester airport by car over Christmas as trains were not running from Blackpool, only a bus service provided on a gridlocked M6/61.
5 to collect my son and then 3 to drop him off!
He's hoping for a refund on his return ticket; he's not holding his breath!

Let's face it, an uncrowded, on time Northern Rail train is as rare as seeing a non steam powered train on Ephotozine.

Sulking, as my usual agency have failed to sell one picture of an over rowded train this week, and the Glasgow Herald managed to pull one from 2002 from a newspaper group archive believing it was a staff pic!

How many could and should work from home? For at lest part of the week.

Long long ago (20 years) the company I worked for pushed hard for homeworking.
Technology has come on in leaps and bounds but people still want the commuting nightmare, be that on rail or road (road pricing should have been in place years ago). No governemnt will invest (properly, not token efforts) or make positive decisions.

But, it creates photo opportunities Smile

OK, so here's the story that it was shot for.

For some people working at home really isn't an option, think retailing, courts, hospitality, manufacturing.

I gave up car commuting whilst the Manchester Christmas Markets were on, and we were plagued with football fixtures. Some footy nights a 14 mile journey too 2 1/2 hours.. No good for stress levels or the environment.

If prices were lower, and I got a seat, I would carry on.
