Northern Rail Overcrowding Manchester Victoria to Clitheroe

By philtaylorphoto
5 December 2018. Overcrowding on the 17:41 Northern Trains service between Manchester Victoria and Clitheroe in Lancashire. The rolling stock is a 2 carriage Pacer, a bus body welded onto a train chassis devised as a temporary measure 30 years ago (this service should have 4 carriages). The train was especially overcrowded as commuters were advised by Greater Manchester Police to use public transport due to the Manchester United V Arsenal match, and extra traffic for the Christmas Markets. The train's intermediate stops are Bolton and Blackburn. The match caused traffic in Manchester to grind to a halt at 4PM, despite I think the kick off being 8PM. Driving the 11 or so miles to the outskirts of Manchester sometimes takes up to 2 1/2 hours.

Gaps? That's because I used a fisheye. With the 17 to 40 you would struggle to put the lens hood on in the space available.

I appreciate that Phil but not as horrendous as some tube journeys. Or journeys on Tokyo's subway.
More the Northern Crowded House as opposed to the Northern Powerhouse.
Either way, not pleasurable.
