Nostalgia

By TrevBatWCC
As mentioned in my previous upload, I had a steam train ride out from Whitby to Goathland on Tuesday of last week. Inspired by posters in the railway memorabilia shops there, for V1 I decided to re-create something similar. The loco 45407 'The Lancashire Fusilier' was built by the Armstrong Whitworth Company, Newcastle in 1937 for the LMS Railway, and I must say that at 10 years older than me it's in better working condition than I am! Wink It has been based in various parts of the country during it's working life, and it featured in a 1991 episode of 'The Mystery of Hunter's Lodge' by Agatha Christie starring David Suchet. Shot from the footbridge, here it's arriving at Goathland station from Whitby. V5 is the original of V1.

Excellent set Trev, and v1 is so reminiscent of those posters you mention. A 'must' on my travels when we visit my parents in Scarborough.

Nice one Trev. I am looking forward to this weekend, and the next one, when there is a 1940's weekend on the Severn Valley.

The effect in V1 doesn't appeal to me, Trev, so I was very pleased to see V5, I like that a lot. Vs 2 and 3 are nice, too, with the surrounding greenery and height of the steam.

Four excellent conventional presentations of this fine old steam set up, Trev, but unlike Pamela I do like V 1 mainly as it brings back memories of train journeys in my youth when there were water colour paintings in each compartment of the old carriages, usually 6 per compartment, and for me always associated with journeys across the Forth Bridge to Fife and month long holidays at the seaside.

I must admit that V5 floats my boat more than V1, too, Trev, though you have worked it very well - and moreover in a style most appropriate to the date of the engine itself.
I reckon Mick would like to see the bits that were replaced by the spare parts he mentions, because they would be nicely rusted by now . . . Wink

Love V5 but V1 has exactly the right period feel. Have you sent it to the railway??

Very well portrayed. It may be older than your good self, but I understand these engines have a new boiler every decade.
So, like my Grandad's hammer, Dad gave it a new shaft and I had to replace the head.

Great shots all of them, Trev, but v1 is a superb homage to those old posters from childhood and so that's my favourite today!

on this occasion I have to agree with PamelaJean - nothing like a good steam train of which I am a huge fan, takes me back many a good year but sorry V1 doesnt appeal as for the rest YES YES YES

It is so great that you captured these lovely shots.
On our one and only day visit to Whitby last September we only saw this train in the distance.
I thought they ran it just for the seiries of Heartbeat and was suprised that it is a regular on the tracks.
Though I took heaps of photos while we were in Whitby town they are only minor when I see everyone elses.
We did get into Goathland though and have a drink in the pub on our way back to York…
All the best……..
