Nostalgia for The Mother Road

By KingBee
One from the archives: Williams, Arizona, 2014. Like many towns which were originally sited along the length of the old Route 66, Williams has been 'cut off' by by the US Interstate system - in this case by I-40 which offers a faster option for travellers going east/west. Probably the main thing keeping Williams alive, apart from its genuine historical interest, is its relative proximity to the Grand Canyon (60 miles to the north) which makes it a good jumping-off point, and a great base, for visitors to the Park.

I was slightly amazed by the interest shown in "The Mill in Winter" which, for me at least, showed the odd PP defect (like slight banding in the sky, which can be avoided but often goes unnoticed until it's too late to do anything about it save starting the process all over again); but like most of us, I suppose, I am overly critical of my own efforts.

Whatever, some of you liked the image enough to give it an award, and in this connection special thanks go to John, Dora, Richard, Alfie and David for their kind UAs. Sincere appreciation to everyone else who looked in, voted and commented.

A great place to get your kicks. Presumably, the arrival of the interstate system helps preserve the original Route 66 more in line with how most people would imagine it. This picture bubbles with atmosphere.

Done route 66 once while holding a video camera out the window most of the way. I wonder what ever happened to that. A great image Bob.

So, do we get to see a photo of the Harley you were riding? You were on a Harley, weren't you? It's the only genuine way to take that road trip...easy rider, dude.Wink

I drove across Canada a few years back and the only time I used the TransCanada was when there was no other realistic choice. The byways are much more interesting.
