Not my phone, not my dog.

By pablophotographer
....pic is mine though. If I remember alright I tried to be ''stealth'', the area was busy with people getting on and off a ship. My interest was on the pattern and the shadow of the dog and its lead. Unfortunately if I were to go anymore to the right I would have included the owner, which I didn't want. The aspect ratio set by the phone if I am not mistaken and the camera could zoom but without knowing the phone, I could not make it zoom. I could trim it form top and bottom 1/8th of the total height on each side, what are your opinions on it? Would a heavy crop from top which excludes the top part of the dog leaving just legs paws and lead and shadow work? A vertical crop would cut-off the shoe too. Would you think something would be missing? Thank you!

Well, it's a quirky image that's for sure! Grin At first look, you don't think the image has got anything to do with the dog, as it's so far to the right hand side (and out of it) that it seems almost secondary to the main pattern. But on looking closely at the whole thing for a while, I come to realise that the image is all about the dog Smile

I do like it though, even though in an ideal world the dog's back end would have also been in the image. Still, given the fact that it's not there I think the only thing I'd change on the right hand side is to clone out the boot of the owner that's in the bottom right corner.

I lilke the length of the lead's shadow, so I don't know if taking any off the bottom would alter that too much. Yes, perhaps take some down from the top - that could work well.

Good stealthing on your part!

If you want to include dog, include it completely in your composition.

Hi Vikram, it was the man's shoe and leg which I wanted to avoid, I shot this in a stealth way, so I didn't want either the dog or the owner to realise I am taking a picture of the canine.

Thanks for your feedback though.

An unconventional composition but given the angle and the pattern of the walkway it's nicely offbeat.

Yes, ideally for this to work well we'd see all of the dog though I understand your reasons for how you shot this.

Perhaps the whole dog and two cut off feet on the edge of the frame? Sometimes there's only one chance for a grab shot, and of those times not every one works like we'd hope.
But it's a good eye that spots the opportunity to start with!

This isn't converting me to the idea that a 'phone is good for pictures! Did you do any processing, Pablo? The colour and the exposure across the frame seem to be quite odd...

If it's on the edge, put it in the corner, I say. Mod uploaded accordingly. I may try a mono mod, too...

Hmm ... just seen John's mod; really wish I'd tried that option first, because it works beautifully!! Grin

Quirky. Pity that all the dog couldnt be in there.

Added a mono mod.
