Very well captured Nutty Sylvia and spooky just put a Nutty on myself. This shaows as mine does the critical dof issue with a long lens. The pof needs to be on the eye which is so difficult with fast small birds when in close. At F8 the whole bird would be in sharp focus and it shows the pof is probably just on the wing.
Great capture as it huddles low

Nice shot, Sylvia, and this specimen seems a lot drier than the snowdrops. I notice what Richard says - seems like excellent help. Your composition and presentation of course are excellent.
Regards, Ronnie.

Excellent shot of the Nuthatch Sylvia. He certainly has the appearance of huddling down, possibly to avoid the damn cold wind we have at present.

Lovely capture Sylvia. Nice pose and catchlight. Just a little advice though....I never use the lens at f4. The DOF is so shallow when shooting at close range. f5.6 -f7.1 usually for me, depending on size of bird and proximity.

Good advice about aperture here Sylvia, I only got my 500mm f/4 so that I could use TC's and still maintain AF and I always try to shoot at f/8 when the light permits. If it wasn't for that my Sigma 150-500mm would have done very nicely.
Focus on the eye as it should be and a super pose,
Geoff.
