Oblivious

By JaHa
Street candid from my stint in London a couple of weeks ago, a little softer than I would have liked but I am finally happy with the crop. A colour version is in v2; I'm leaning towards mono but I quite like the red headphones standing out in colour (not too big a fan of colour popping).

Thanks for looking pals, comments and criticisms appreciated - if there's any way to get it sharper then modifications would be most welcome.

Its a good shot, and your foreground sharpness is not at all bad. The lens is wide open, so you can expect softness in distant objects.

I like the mono, but it will benefit with added sharpness and contast.

One suggestion rather than mono is duo tone, you might like it.

Ive loaded 3 mods. 1 is your original shot, sharper; 2 is a duo tone conversion; 3 is the duo tone with the headphones popped.

Hope this is helpful, and welcome to EPZ, enjoy the site. There are "Like" buttons if you like a particular comment, and if feedback is helpful in that it can improve you skill, theres the Nominate as Constructive link at the bottom right of every post.

I'm so glad that you enabled mods with this and I'm glad that Willy worked on your thought of the red earphones.
Many thanks for saving my upload as a favourite - I feel very chuffed that someone liked it enough to save it SmileSmile

Hi Jarod,

Both images work well but my preference would be for V2.

You say it's a little bit soft so I've made a few adjustments in PS. If you have "Elements or PS etc" go to "Filters" and then towards the bottom select "Other" then "High Pass". When you select High Pass your copy will turn silver, don't worry that's normal, there's a slider to adjust the amount, I selected 0.9 then in Blend Modes select "Soft light" (it's another way of sharpening). Next, again in "Filters" select "Sharpen" and "Unsharpen Mask" remember when sharpening you need to increase you image to a minimum of 50% but ideally 100%. Now forget everything else and concentrate on the buildings in the background, when you have them as you like use a layer mask and brush set to the colour black and erase the effect from the rest of the image. If you erase areas you didn't want to, change the colour of your brush to white, paint over those areas and this will return them to as they were. To finish off I added 25% vibrance, not saturation, vibrance as a more subtle effect.

Take care

Like the mono version and it's a street candid shot well shot. It tells a good story. Well spotted. Paul
