One of my favourite memories of my brief overnight safari last year in South Africa was coming out of my tent to find a young giraffe standing just around the back of the tent. This chap isn't the same giraffe - rather if I remember correctly I think this was the alpha male of the herd. As young males grow the alpha forces them away from the herd to protect his harem - the young giraffe behind my tent was one such male. A second enduring memory was when I witnessed another young male spotting his mother for the first time in months and his sprinting to her side in order to meet her. I might post the sequence of images that captured this in the next couple of days...
