Old Ensign

By JenniCh
Something a bit different tonight, still life with a sepia tint to give an 'aged' effect (hopefully). So need some feedback on this as it's not something I've tried before, all comments and critique welcomed and much appreciated .............

You have achieved an aged look which owks wonderfull with your props.

Another time why not try working with a few related props-- several bottles, gloves and a flower, or that wonderful camera, an old album and/or a picture!

Nice work, jennnn

I love the gloves & the Camera is fab.
I think Jenn has a good suggestion ref the props being a little more 'related'.
The tones work ok but I think the whole thing needs just a wee boost in contrast,as it does seem a tad flat & the pretty box is slightly lost against the bg.
You could try just lightening the edges a little to give more of a faded look to this.
I would have perhaps got rid of the light bit @ bottom right as it just pulls me away from the subjects.
Nicely arranged on the table.

Thanks for all votes, comments and critique, all much appreciated and some interesting points raised and all very valid and interesting; picked up the camera at a local auction and was keen to build something around it, more thought needed before another attempt I think.

A bit of nostalgia indeed, Keith, my first camera was a lovely blue Ensign Ful Vue - I just loved that camera! seems just like yesterday WinkSmile

This set has loads of mileage left in it. Could considered pulling back and including more of the table even to include an item placed underneath the table. As for this image it has achieved the timeless quality I think you were looking for. Sepia does suit this composition very much and maybe you could try either an uneven white vignette rather than the traditional dark or some faux folds to age it even more.

I really like the composition (particularly the level table top) the staging, the lighting and the the style of processing. Regards

A very nice still delicately composed with fine detail.
Nice setting with a good backdrop.
Well done. WesternRed.
