Old Rope

By woolybill1
The sort of old rope that is still worth a bit to the fishermen who rely on it. Seen on a trawler in Howth Harbour during our visit to Dublin, April 2008. Original at V2 for comparison.

200mm, 1/250th sec. @ f5.6, ISO 200.

Lovely textures. The mono is the preferred shot as I think it allows the textures to speak for themselves.

Piles of old chain are pretty good too.

The conversion is a cracker, much stronger image that really brings out the texture well.

A super bit of old rope here Bill.A good bit of fraying too.
And you know what ? I prefer the mono here!!
Probably because of the fraying. It has more impact without the distraction of colour.( now I will need a lie down, after that confession !!)

The mono version is so strong - make the image stand out, while I believe that the coloured version would not be able to do that (eventhough it is a beautiful shot...).

This is a great image to demonstrate when to convert to mono or leave as original. V1 is far superior because of the conversion..... no colour distractions, it's all about light and textures. Nice one Bill. Bryan

Excellent use of mono, this. Allows the light and texture to speak for themselves - art rather than reportage.

Great shot Bill; definitely the mono for me with the extra contrast; just seems to fit the beaten-up old rope well
